The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has revealed how senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) colluded with the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state to perpetrate fraud during the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 in the state.

According to the party, the electoral heist began at the end of voting when it became clear that the APC and its candidates had lost every polling unit in the state.

In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, the PDP claimed that the Senator Hope Uzodimma-led APC administration working in cahoots with the INEC manufactured votes from areas where polls never held.

It listed Ihube, Agbobu, Umuowaibu, Aku, Umulolo, Ogii and Amuro wards in Okigwe Local Government |Area as areas where polls did not hold yet the ruling party and INEC manufactured votes from them and recorded the votes for the APC.

According to Opurozor, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sylvia Agu handed over election materials for the areas to agents of Senator Uzodimma and results were written for the APC.

He said the INEC had no qualms accepting and declaring the fabricated results, stressing that the state has never had it this bad with the INEC in the history of electioneering in the country.

The PDP also pointed out that the results of elections in Jigawa State were imported to supplant its high scores in three local government areas of Aboh Mbaise, Oguta and Ehime Mbano.

The statement reads in part; “In three other Local Government Areas, particularly, Aboh Mbaise, Oguta and Ehime Mbano, where PDP won by over eighty percent of the total votes cast, the worst happened.

“Results from Jigawa State were imported into Imo State, and this morally-bankrupt INEC in Imo swapped them with the authentic results from the polling units across these three LGAs. Subsequently, the Jigawa results were transmitted to iREV Portal on Sunday, February 26th, 2026.

“To be specific, the following polling units in Aboh Mbaise LGA had by the dusk of Sunday, February, 26th, been replaced with results from Jigawa State: Community School Ndigbo, Community School Okwu Na Akuwa, Egbelu Ndiegbo Hall, Egbelu Square, Umuaghara Hall, Umueke Hall, Community School Egbelu, Umumbie Hall, Umunobi Umuoshi Village Hall, Umuorobara Hall, Umuoshi Village Hall, Akpotu Hall, and Eziala Amaishii Amano Hall.

“In Ehime Mbano LGA, Isi Orie Primary School, Umuopara-Ama Hall, Umuezeala Offor Hall, Obom Umuako Square, Secondary School Umuezeala-Ama, Ukwuegbu Umuaro Hall, Ukwuobu Umuezeala Ogwara C/SUmuagba/Umuoba Hall, Community School Umuezeala-Ama, Umuduru Aro Square 1, Umuduru Aro Square 11, and Isi-Afor Primary School were polling units where Jigawa results were also uploaded and transmitted.

“This same fraud happened in Oguta LGA. For Orsu and Oru East, and most parts of Orlu LGA where elections never held at all, results from Jigawa State were similarly uploaded onto the INEC Server, while their authentic result sheets delivered to Imo APC by INEC for the second phase of the fraud.

“In Njaba LGA, the INEC Electoral Officer who refused to yield to threats by agents of the APC to do this same thing was abducted and almost assassinated. Till date, the elections in Njaba remain inconclusive”.

Police Foil Attack At INEC Office in Imo

The PDP submitted that the INEC as constituted in Imo State is irredeemably unfit to continue the conduct of polls in the state.

It accused the INEC of becoming the rigging organ of the APC in the state, adding that the REC has carried on with her hatchet job in a manner injurious to democracy and might stoke the fire of unrest.

The party said it has lost confidence in the electoral umpire in the state and cannot contest expecting fairness and transparency from the compromised electoral commission.

It further alleged that result sheets for the Saturday, March 11 polls had been forwarded to Government House Owerri and results which favour the APC candidates entered waiting to be announced.

Following these developments, the party submitted that allowing the REC to continue in office is inimical to democracy.

It also called on the University of Nigeria Nsukka to strip Prof Agu of academic qualifications, stressing that a person who commits electoral crimes thereby trampling on the electoral integrity of the country should have no place in a citadel of learning like the UNN.
