Appeal Court President constitutes Imo Election Petition Tribunal

The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban- Mensem,  has constituted the National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal for Imo State.

This was disclsoed in a letter addressed to the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists Imo State Council, Ifeanyi Nwanguma.

The letter stated that the mandate of the tribunal is to hear and determine election petitions that may arise from the upcoming 2023 general election in Imo State.

However, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice T.E. Chukwuemeka-Chikeka, has granted former High Court 1 and 2 Justice S.A Nsofor, Court Complex on Orlu Road Owerri for use by the tribunal.

The letter therefore advised aggrieved members of the public to contact the Secretary of the Tribunal at the Registry or Secretariat of the Tribunal for inquiry.

Section 285 (2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) empowers the Appeal Court President to constitute the tribunal.
