Taraba College Celebrates Exit Of Provost

The management and staff of the Taraba State College of Education (COE), Zing have organized a befitting send-forth programme in honour of the institution’s former Provost, Mike Dio Jen.

In his speech during the event held at the Campview Event Centre in Jalingo, Chairman, Governing Council of the College, Senator Ambuno Zik Sunday said Jen has left an indelible mark by developing the College to the status of a Federal University.

Zik Sunday noted that the infrastructural facilities put in place by the leadership of the former Provost has earned the college the enabling attribute to be established as a Federal University of Education. 

According him, the College under the watch of Jen was upgraded to a degree awarding institution, affiliated with the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

“Mike Dio Jen is a gentleman, amiable and approachable, we have never disagreed, we have never fought, we worked as members of the same family”, he said.

The Governing Council Chairman further urged the present Provost, Prof Ejika Sambo to emulate his predecessor, even to do more and better than him. 

Speaking, the Provost, Prof. Ejika Sambo who was full of joy, thanked Governor Darius Ishaku, the people of the state, management and staff of the college for finding him worthy to serve as provost.

To his predecessor, he said, “We know that your footprint in the college is still standing, don’t forget the college as you become a lawmaker at the State House of Assembly”.

In his remarks, the former Provost, Dr. Mike Dio Jen thanked the Visitor of the College, Governor Ishaku, the Governing Council, union members, staff and students of the college for the honour done him.

He attributed the progress he made at the college to their support and contributions.

Dr. Jen also advised his successor to operate an open-door policy with various unions in the college saying, such helped and kept him out of trouble arising from union issues.

“Throughout my tenure here as Provost, we never witnessed any crisis because resources were managed judiciously”, he noted. 

Our correspondent gathered that before Dr. Dio assumed office as the Provost, he was appointed as the Director of Workshops and later became the Acting Provost.

In June 2014, he was confirmed as the Provost, Taraba State College of Education Zing, a position he held for eight consecutive years.

He was also the National Chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, a position he also held till his retirement.
