The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State on Wednesday pledged to support the reelection bid of Hon Chike Okafor, member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The party said its executives in the 11 wards, booths and local government area would work for the reelection of Hon Okafor, who is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the leadership of the party, the decision was arrived at, after a cursory look at the collective future and interest of Obowo Local Government Area which supersede any individual or parochial interest.
It added that their illustrious son and brother, Hon Okafor has shown capacity, patriotism and selfless efforts to the development of Obowo and betterment of the lives of her indigenes.
According to the party, a good man that doesn’t discriminate against his people should be supported across party and religious divides to ensure his landslide victory in the election scheduled for February 25, 2023.
The declaration was made in a grand rally held at the instance of APGA leadership in Obowo LGA and hosted by a community leader in Umuosechie Autonomous Community, Chief Vitus Onyinye Okonkwo.
.The ceremony was graced by Hon Okafor and other stalwarts of the APC in Obowo LGA and parts of the Okigwe South Federal Constituency.
In his remarks, the Chairman of APGA Obowo LGA, Hon Uche Popular Okeke said that they decided to make public their decision to partner with like-minds, leaders, stakeholders of Obowo, including the members of APC to support and deliver Hon Okafor.
According to him, they cannot identify with any other candidate apart from Hon. Okafor, after withdrawing support from the APGA candidate for the poll, Hon U. D Ejelonu.
The Chairman however disclosed that APGA is fielding a candidate for Obowo State Assembly election which comes up on March 11, 2023 and requested for the support of the APC and Hon. Okafor in reciprocation.
The Obowo LGA APGA women leader, Lady Chinwe Okeke, Youth Leader, Oguguo Jonathan, and Secretary, Obioma Ernest corroborated the stance of the chairman.
Also speaking, the Obowo LGA APGA Campaign Council Chairman, Hon Emeka Amajuoyi said that Mezie Obowo Campaign Organization deemed Hon Okafor better qualified because of his antecedents and selflessness.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Ward Chairmen in Obowo APC, the LGA Vice Chairman of Obowo APC, Chief Angus thanked the Obowo LGA APGA leadership for show of patriotism and brotherhood in adopting Okafor as a consensus candidate for Okigwe South Federal Constituency poll.
They described the action of APGA leadership as timely and worthy.
In his remarks, former Transition Committee Chairman of Obowo LGA and Chieftain of APC, Hon Chidi Nwoke expressed happiness over the action of the APGA leadership.
He however said that the issue of reciprocity for their candidate in the March 11, 2023 election will be looked into.
Responding, Hon Okafor expressed his gratitude to the APGA chieftains, describing as his worthy brothers and sisters.
He assured that he will continue to protect the interest of their people whose aspirations remain paramount to him.
