A political pressure group, Save Imo has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 poll, Mr. Peter Obi.
It also adopted the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the Imo West Senatorial poll, Senator Osita Izunaso and his counterpart in Imo East Senatorial District, Prince Alex Mbata.
At a ceremony held on Saturday, February 12, in Owerri, Founder of Save Imo, Nze Ebubeagu Ekenulo said the organization chose to endorse the candidates because of their good character, capacity and competence.
He further explained that the group examined and endorsed across parties candidates who would deliver the goods to their country and constituencies if elected.
Ekenulo therefore urged Imolites to trooped out to the polls and vote the candidates chosen by his group.
He reeled out other candidates also endorsed by his organization to include LP candidate for Imo North Senatorial poll, Barr Ifeanyi Araraume; the APC House of Representatives candidates for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency and obowo/Ehime Mbano/Ihitte/Uboma Constituency, Hon. Chukwugozie Nwachukwu and Hon Chike John Okafor respectively.
According to Ekenulo, Imolites should also vote massively for Prince Eugene Dibiagwu, Ohaji.Egbema/Ortu West Federal Constituency; Dr. Paschal Obi, Ideato/North Federal Constituency; Prince Chikwem Onuoha, Okigwe North Federal Constituency; Hon Uche Ogbuagu, Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency; Engr. Ifeanyi Akwiti, Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, Nkwerre/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency; Hon. Ikenna Elezianya, Owerri Municipal/Owerri North/Owerri West Federal Constituency and Emeka Chinedu, Ezinihitte/Ahiazu Mbaise Federal Constituency.
The organization also endorsed the Imo State House of Assembly namely Barr Chisom Ojukwu (Nkwerre), Hon Ebere Ugo (Obowo), Sam Osuji (Isiala Mbano), Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West); Johnson Duru (Ideato South), Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West), Emeka Ozurumba (Isu); and Obinna Edward (aboh Mbaise).
The rest are Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu (Nwangele); Otuibe Samuel (Ahiazu Mbaise); Benard Ndubuisi Ozoemelam(Ehime Mbano); Udeze Ernest Okechukwu(Ideato North); Ikpamezie Innocent (Mbaitoli); Ebonine Beneth Ozioma(Njaba); Nwosu Gilbert Chiedozie(opguta); Esile James Uba (Onuimo); Agabiga Uche (Orsu); Chigozie Nwaneri (Oru East) and Ugochukwu Obodo (Owerri Municipal).
Speaking on behalf of other endorsed candidates, the LP candidate for Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Prince Chikwem Onuoha expressed happiness over their endorsement and effusively thanked the organization for endorsing Mr. Peter Obi, who he described as the best man for the presidency of the country.
Onuoha said the endorsement will spur them to work harder in order to clinch victory at the polls.
He enjoined the Imo State government to provide security in the state to make for seamless conduct of the 2023 polls.
Onuoha specifically requested the state government to provide in Onuimo Local Government Area where he said some registered voters were not able to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards owing to insecurity.
Erudite scholar, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri delivered a lecture entitled “Role of the Judiciary in the Electoral Process in Nigeria-Myths and Realities” at the ceremony.
