Digital creator, Adamazi Mbonu Onyinyechi Jennifer has bagged a first class Master’s Degree in Environmental Management from the Imo State University, Owerri.
Jennifer was among some 500 graudands of the university who took part in the 8th convocation ceremony of the university held on Saturday, February 4, 2023.
The topic of her thesis was “Comparative Assessment of Abattoir Waste Management in Selected Rural and Urban Areas of Imo State’.
Her research revealed that the current waste management practices in rural (Aboh-Mbaise and Ideato-North) and urban (Owerri Municipal and Owerri North) areas of Imo State, Nigeria were unsatisfactory.
She also found out that butchers were still using obsolete facilities that lacked maintenance and inadequate supervision leading to poor hygienic practices that undermine the quality of the meat sold to the public.
She recommended that butchers should be encouraged to form cooperative society as this would enable them pool resources together and project a collective demand in addressing the issues of waste management and commercialization of wastes in the abattoirs.
Mbonu also canvassed teaching butchers the importance of commercialization of waste management by relevant bodies so they could take advantage of it in increasing their production capacity and maintaining the best hygienic abattoir environment.
Mbonu expressed gratitude to her father for inculcating in her the zeal to pursue her academic dreams and to God for ensuring she did not give up in the face of daunting challenges.
Mbonu’s elder sister, Okonkwo Chinenyenwa also bagged a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from the same university.
