The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has called for the immediate redeployment of heads of security agencies in the state.

The party regretted that more than one week after, the security agencies have failed to unmask, arrest and prosecute the masterminds of the lethal attack on its candidate for Ideato Federal Constituency, Imo Ugochinyere Ikenga.

Gunmen had on January 14, 2023 swooped on the Akokwa Ideato North home of Ikenga, killing his uncle and three others as well as razing his house and more than 30 vehicles in his premises.

The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor said the silence and inability of the security agencies to arrest the felons who carried out the dastardly act cannot be rationalized.

The PDP reasoned that with the escalating insecurity situation in the state, the forthcoming elections in the state are in jeopardy.

It noted that the safety and security of opposition figures and candidates in the state can no longer be guaranteed.

The party therefore called on the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Chief of Army Staff to redeploy heads of their agencies currently serving in the state.

According to the party, the redeployment will engender confidence in the non-partisanship of the security establishment and create an atmosphere conducive for free and fair contest.

It accused the security agencies of acquiescing to the whims and caprices of the administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma which made them to fail to arrest those who attacked Ikenga on December 23 when he escaped assassination.

It wondered why the security agencies have left an aide of the governor who threatened to deal with Ugochinyere in a viral voice note to continue to walk the streets free.
