Operatives of the Imo State Police Command on Wednesday, January 18 neutralized three hoodlums who attempted to attack Agwa Police Station in Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
The malefactors said to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) and its affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN)were said to have headed to attack the police station after burning down the office of Agwa Central vigilante Group.
According to the spokesman of the police in the state, CSP Michael Abattam, operatives of the command swung into action on being informed that the hoodlums had cordoned off the station.
Abattam said the combatant tactical team of the command on mobilizing to the area engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel during which three of the attackers were neutralized and others scampered into the surrounding bushes.
He informed that the operatives on combing the bushes recovered (1) two (2) Pump Action guns, (2) two (2) Double Barrel guns, (3) twenty four (24) rounds or live ammunition and (4) twelve (12) expended cartridges.
Other weapons also recovered were (5) one (1) Improvised Explosive Device, (6) three (3) operational vehicles -one green coloured Lexus 470GL, one black coloured Toyota Highlander, one Oxblood coloured mini bus, (6) two (2) motorcycles, (7) one (1) iron box, (8) one (1) travelling bag and assorted charms.
Abattam added that investigation is in progress, stressing that the gallant operatives are not relenting in their efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.
He further disclosed that the corpse of the hoodlums have been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary while, efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects are on top gear since they cannot go far due to the various degrees of bullet injuries they sustained in the gun duel.
He added that a police operative who sustained minor bullet injury was rushed to the hospital for treatment
