Chief Albert U. Ahanonu, (Arufuoaku), an indigene of Umuchoko Village in Obube Autonomous Community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of Chukwu1buikem 1 of Obube by his Royal Highness Eze Dr A.I. Onukogu ( Eze Udo 1 of Obube, Ekwueme 111 of Owerri)  on Saturday 7th January 2023 at the Eze’s Palace. 

The occasion which was titled ‘conferment of Nze/chieftaincy titles on our illustrious sons and friends’ was graced by dignitaries, government officials, friends, well-wishers and indigenes of Umuchoko/ Ngwoma Community. 

Chief Ahanonu in appreciation of the honour conferred on him, thanked His Royal Highness, Eze Dr A. I Onukogu and the members of the Traditional Council of Obube Autonomous Community.

Speaking at the event, he said: “This is a historic event. It is the liberation of the people of Umuchoko.

“Today is very significant and Umuchoko through his representation will continue to abide under the rules and leadership of Obube”.

He pledged his loyalty, contributions and support for the development of Umuchoko Village and the Obube community. 

Others who were conferred with Nzeship and chieftaincy titles were: Chief Chris E. Nzeakor Snr ( Chief Udokanmma 1 of Obube); Chief Tony Nosike ( Okaaome 1 of Obube); Martin Anuforo (Nze Onyekamma Nazu 1 Of Obube); Nze Peter (Akaekpuchioma 1 Obube); Nze Anthony ObiAkagha (Agunecheulo 1 of Obube) and Nze Reginald Ndukwu (Oguejiofor 1 of Obube) from Ogum kindred Umuchoko Obube.

Others were Nze Marcillinus Ugochukwu Ewelike ( Umunawuike 11 of Obube); Chief Theophilus Ekeocha  Aririerimba 1 of Obube; Nze Ernest Egbujudo Nkemakolam; Nze Cosmas Chukwuemeka Elezi (Ugwuezumba 1 of Obube) and Chief Ernest Onukogu (Omemma 1 of Obube).

 The title recipients thanked the monarch and his cabinet for considering them worthy of the nzeship and chieftaincy title

They took oath of allegiance and promised to abide by the rules and regulations of Eze Udo 1 of Obube.

In his address, His Royal Highness Eze Dr A. I. Onukogu charged them to be loyal and carry out their duties efficiently.

Highlights of the ceremony were the display of different masquerades, dances and songs by the women and youths of Umuchoko Village.

There was also a 21-gun salute which announced the confirmation of the various titles on the recipients.

Cutting of the royal cake was done by the members of Eze cabinet and the individuals who were conferred with the nzeship and chieftaincy titles. 

The Chairman, Planning Committee, Chief Samuel Obilor Akujobi Enyi Oha 1 of Obube, in his vote of thanks commended all that contributed to the success of the installation.

Hear him;”I thank the planning committee and the Eze cabinet for their active participation in the installation process. Today is very historical. It is a decade of the last chieftaincy title in Obube. We thank God for this event”.
