Indigenes of Ndiejezie Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State on Wednesday, January 11 protested the murder of a prospective couple on Tuesday by unknown gunmen in the community.

The gunmen also reportedly killed a relation of the groom who was conveying them in a tricycle.

The couple were billed to tie the nuptial knot traditionally on January 18, 2023 at Mr and Mrs Monday Mba, Umuogbuefi, Ebeneb Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The villagers who traversed the nooks and crannies of the community finally massed at a four-road junction where they invoked the gods and spirits of the ancestors of the community to exact judgement on the killers as well as others who have been unleashing mayhem on the community.

The killers equally set ablaze two vehicles in the community.

According to a source, the groom, Eremezie Ifechukwu Martin and his finacee, Mba Ifeoma Gloria were being conveyed to his community by his brother-tricyclist when they were attacked and killed.

The source who preferred to have his identity kept under wraps wrote on the police/media WhatsApp platform; “This is the situation in Arondizuogu for sometime now, a young man who was coming home for his marriage was killed in his village yesterday(Tuesday) night with his fiancee and the brother who was conveying them in his Keke. This happened at Ndiejezie Izuogu in Ideato North LGA of Imo State.

The source disclosed of the assurance given him after he complained of the incessant killings and kidnappings in the community last year.

He reasoned that security agencies might not have done much to stem the tide leading to many indigenes refusing to return to celebrate the last yuletide festivities as a result of the un-abating crimes in the area.

Hear him, “I complained of this reckless kidnapping and killing and burning of vehicles in Arondizuogu last year and PPRO assured me that something was already done about it.

“But since then the killing and kidnapping has been everyday event, people of Arondizuogu did not come back for Christmas and New Year, the few that came could not move around with their car.

“As we speak there was mass exodus of people from Arondizuogu this morning after this incident last night.

He called on the authorities to deploy a combined team of police and military personnel to patrol Arondizuogo-Okigwe Road round the clock.

He revealed that the perpetrators of the mayhem in the community specialize in stealing posh cars and killing their owners if they resisted the theft.

He further wrote;””PPRO we need police and army patrol in Arondizuogu Okigwe road 24/7

“They specialize in stealing flashy cars and killing the owner of he refused or was running, at times cars are burnt in the process. 

“We are no longer safe in Arondizuogu, students are afraid of going to school. Our mothers no longer go to the market for fear of the unknown. Please help us before we are finished”.

The police authorities in the state are yet to issue any statement concerning the murder incident.
