Ekwe Ancient kingdom in Isu Local Government Area of Imo State has concluded plans to build a hall of fame to immortalize indigenes who have contributed to the development of the community.
This formed part of their resolutions during the commissioning ceremony of multiple projects built through efforts of public-spirited indigenes of the community on January 2, 2023.
The projects commissioning ceremony kicked off at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ekwe Ancient kingdom, HRH Eze Charles Emeka Anyakudo.
It was witnessed by members of the Eze’s Cabinet, Council of Chiefs and members of Ekwe Development Union, EDU.
The projects commissioned included the rehabilitated Ekwe Community Health Centre, borehole water system located at the Health Centre, Central School Ekwe and Ekwe Secondary School dug by Chief Calistus Morgan Onwenu; 50-capacity Computer Laboratory Hall built by EDU USA Branch and Lawn Tennis Court at Ekwe Secondary School (Ekwe Red) donated by Chief Jones Cosy Onwenu.
Speaking during the event, the traditional ruler of Ekwe Ancient Kingdom, HRH Eze Charles Emeka Anyakudo thanked Chief Dr. Calistus Morgan Onwenu for his contribution towards development of their community.
The monarch, who also donated a power generating set and built warehouse for market women at their market square equally commended the President-General of Ekwe Development Union, EDU, Mr. Fidelis A.C. Akamere for his sincerity in administering the community.
Eze Anyakudo noted that Ekwe Ancient kingdom has a balanced administrative system that would help them to manage and safeguard the projects.
He thanked everyone who contributed in the various ways to ensure the success of the projects, while urging all illustrious sons of the community to feel free to execute projects in the community to immortalize their departed loved ones.
In his speech, Chief Calistus Morgan Onwenu disclosed that he was touched by the spirit “above” to give back to the society by providing good drinking water for his people.
He promised to continue touching lives of his people positively as well as extending his philanthropic gestures beyond his community.
Recall that Chief Dr. Onwenu has been grading roads in his community as well as awarding scholarship to the youths of his community yearly.
Earlier, the President-General of Ekwe Development Union, Mr. Fidelis A. C. Akamere who doubles as the President of all the Presidents-Generals of Isu Local Government Area Town Unions thanked their traditional ruler and Isu Local Government Area Sole Administrator, Hon. Ifeanyi Oguzie for giving him the opportunity to contribute his quota towards the development of Ekwe Community.
Akamere stated that despite hurdles confronting his administration which included the outbreak of COVID-19 within his two months in the office, his administration was able to complete the projects through the assistance of their illustrious sons.
