The group, Advocates For Global Peace Forum International (AGPFI) has raised alarm over drug abuse amongst youths in Nigeria particularly in Imo State.
Already, the group in partnership with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has set aside November 22 and 23 to hold seminars during which heads of Imo State schools and security agencies would be engaged on the dangers associated with the drug abuse and misuse.
Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Owerri, a patron of the group, HRH, Eze Amb. Damian Emeka Obianigwe, Eze OHA, Obi of Isi Ihiteowerri, revealed that the rate of drug abuse in Imo State has become alarming to the extent that if nothing was done quickly, many people may be adversely affected by the menace.
The monarch, who was represented at the event by the AGPFI’s Consultant, Dr. Fortune Obikwere, pointed out that in a bid to save the society from further damage emanating from drug abuse and misuse, the AGFI in conjunction with NDLEA would be presenting what he described as “Drug Abuse Intervention Course for Security and Law Enforcement Agencies and School based Drug Abuse Prevention Course for Teachers and Administrators of Public Secondary Schools in Imo State.
According to the monarch, the NGO has been in the forefront of the fight against the menace of drug abuse and has always created awareness with a view to bringing it to an end.
He admonished parents to always monitor their children and wards to prevent them from engaging in the practice.
Recall that Eze Obianigwe has been engaged in series of intervention programmes for years in a bid to salvage humanity from the evils associated with drugs and to make the society a better place to live in.
