The Imo State House of Assembly has adopted a motion urging the state governor, Hope Uzodimma to include the reconstruction of Afor Nzerem/Obenetiti/Nkwodiokaikpem Road in the 2023 budget of the state.
Arguing the motion at plenary on Wednesday, Deputy Speaker, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu stressed the economic and social importance of the road
According to him, schools, markets and public buildings located along the road cannot function optimally owing to deplorable condition of the road.
Iwuanyanwu therefore prayed the governor to include the reconstruction of the road in next year’s budget.
He expressed confidence that the reconstruction of the road, would accelerate development in the area.
Members who were present at plenary spoke in favour of the motion.
Michael Crown Onyemaechi, member representing Ihitte/Uboma Constituency, described himself as a victim of the bad nature of the road.
The member representing Aboh Mbaise Constituency, Eddy Obinna observed that the road was truly in a state of disrepair, which has caused the people in the area great hardship and inconveniences.
Dominic Ezerioha, member representing Oru-West Constituency requested the House to prevail on Governor Uzodimma to do the needful by not only including the road in the budget but also ensuring that the contract on the road was awarded and executed.
After listenibg to the contributions of members, the Speaker, Anthony Emeka Nduka, put the motion to vote and the ayes had it.
The speaker thereafter directed the clerk, Chinelo Emeggara to convey the resolution of the House to the governor.
Earlier, the House adopted a motion urging the governor to prevail on relevant agencies to do palliative work on the bad spots of Owerri/Onitsha Expressway.
Also, the House screened and confirmed Professor Johncliff Chike Nwadike as a commissioner in the state.
The House thereafter adjourned sitting to Tuesday, 15th November, 2022.
