The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has called on politicians across party lines to play within the ambit of the law, saying that no personal ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.
Anyanwu further advised them to embark on issues-based campaigns to sustain the peace and unity of the society.
Senator Anyanwu, who represented Imo East District between 2015 and 2019 at the Senate warned against act capable of heating up the polity and endangering the lives and property of the people in a bid to win election.
The PDP National Secretary gave the admonition in a statement signed by his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha and made available to National Newsbreak on Thursday.
He equally urged politicians to close ranks with security agencies to boost the fight against corruption, insecurity, and banditry, noting that free and fair elections could only be achieved in a secure environment.
He condemned the use of provocative and unguarded statements as means of sensitizing the electorate.
He submitted that by now, the new crop of politicians would have seen reasons to jettison politics of calumny and acrimony in a bid to undermine their opponents.
According to him, “only politicians without any tangible programme to offer to the masses are in the habit of blackmailing others in order to score cheap political relevance. No reasonable person with standardized blue print struggles to ruin his opponents. This type of politics must stop”.
The former Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions therefore enjoined those jostling for positions to unveil their programmes to the people as a guide.
He added that until they understand the importance of issues-based campaign, their ambitions will remain inconsequential to the society.
