The abducted lecturer of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Sam Egere, has regained his freedom.
His captors let him off the hook on Thursday, November 3, 2022 after spending exactly four days in their den.
Egere was whisked away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at his house in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
A reliable source close to the family disclosed that relations, friends and well-wishers including colleagues at the polytechnic have been celebrating since his return home.
The source further disclosed that Egere, who is also the Secretary, Board of Trustees of Olu Owerri, a pressure group is undergoing medical evaluation at the moment.
The source said; “There was no way he would not be tortured. He was tortured by the kidnappers.
“At the moment, he is undergoing medical evaluation and treatment”.
Also speaking, the President General of Olu-Owerri, Chief Martin Opara confirmed Egere’s release.
Opara in a statement dated November 4, expressed gratitude to God and all those who facilitated his safe return.
The president-general also expressed happiness that Egere returned in a good state of health.
He said no ransom was paid to secure his release but promised to make public other details of the cruel abduction soon.
The authorities of the state police command and Federal Polytechnic Nekede are yet to issue any official statement on the abduction.
Enquiries made by our correspondent bore no fruits as both the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Michael Abattam and Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Eva Nwosu did not respond before press time.
