Religious leaders comprising bishops and other categories of clergy including some leaders from Orlu Zone and Imo state have commended Senator Osita Izunaso for his yearly empowerment of persons with disabilities through the Kpakpando Foundation.
They described Senator izunaso who represented Imo West District at the Senate between 2007 and 2011 as a true humanist and philanthropist.
Speaking at this year’s Kpakpando Foundation Empowerment for persons living with disabilities, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN President in Orlu zone, Rev Canon Okechukwu Udegbe commended Sen Izunaso for establishing Kpakpando Foundation.
He noted that the senator has been using the foundation to touch the lives of the physically challenged persons and the less privileged in the society for 17 years.
Udegbe added that it was surprising and soul-touching how an able-bodied and rich man like Sen Izunsao could decode to found love for those who were looked down upon in the society.
He noted that the likes of Senator Izunaso are rare to find around, stressing that Kpakpando Foundation has gained national prominence among the few genuine philanthropic, non political and non-profit making organizations that have impacted positively in the lives of the less privileged in the society.
In his reaction, a Lagos-based businessman, Prince Nixon Okwara described as unprecedented and astonishing the level of empowerment he witnessed during the event,
Okwara stated that Senator Izunaso has cut his love and respect for doing what is not common among the rich.
He enjoined the senator to consider him as a member of the foundation moving forward, promising to donate handsomely for the growth and sustenance of the programme which is done every October 30, to mark the birthday of its founder and Chairman, Sen Osita Izunsao.
This view was also expressed by Prince Ford Ozumba, Hon Cosmas Maduba, both Commissioners in the administration of Sen Hope Uzodimma and others.
In their separate speeches, they commended Sen Izunsao for deciding to always remember what they called the unforgotten segments of the society.
They recalled that through the activities of Kpakpando Foundation, a law had been passed for the establishment of Persons with Disability Commission at the national level and some states.
Kpakpando Foundation started 17 years ago and within these years, it has given thousands of sewing machines, wheel chairs, clutches, gas cylinders, generators among other things aimed at making those with disability to start up something for themselves so as to be self reliant.
Sen Izunaso, who is the 2023 candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in Imo West Senatorial District had represented Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007.
