The African Democratic Congress (ADC), South East has condemned the removal of banners and disruption of the campaign of its candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Chinonso Ubah by the agents of the Imo State government.
In a statement dated October 27, 2022, the party expressed shock over the development perpetrated by operatives of the Imo State Signage and Advertisement Agency, IMSAA.
A viral video shows operatives of IMSAA interrupting the campaign train of Ubah popularly known as Nonsonkwa, along the Orji-Okigwe Road, Owerri, claiming to be acting based on instructions from above.
The ADC in the statement signed by Chilos Godsent, National Vice Chairman, South East, called on the state governor, Hope Uzodimma to respect the rights of citizens to freely campaign for votes as enshrined in the constitution.
The party urged the governor to immediately call to order the operatives of IMSAA from further attacking Nonsonkwa.
The party maintained that the act of brigandage unleashed on its candidate by the operatives of IMSAA was capable of causing a breach of public peace should its faithful or the faithful of other opposition parties decide to resist it.
The party advised the governor and the band of thugs deployed by the IMSAA to learn from the mistakes and failures of past political leaders in the state.
Godsent said the party believes that the state government unleashed its thugs against Nonsonkwa owing to his criticisms of its obnoxious policies since the advent of Uzodimma as governor.
He said the party would henceforth not condone or tolerate any form of aggression or attack on Nonsonkwa or any of its members by thugs belonging to the government.
The party vowed it would deploy every legal means to counter fascism in the state should there be a repeat.
Recall that Ubah, a broadcaster was banned by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, for alleged unprofessional conduct while presenting programmes on OzisaFM Owerri.
