As the 2023 general elections draw near, the Imo State chapter of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is said to have been compromised by a senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the ruling party’s victory in Orlu Senatorial Zone otherwise known as Imo West District.
A stakeholder of the APGA confided in our correspondent that Senator Osita Izunaso who is seeking reelection into the Senate on the platform of the APC has compromised the APGA with the sum of N10million.
It was gathered that the largesse given to the APGA candidate for the 2023 poll, Patrick Azumah through the state chairman, John Iwuala is for APGA to align its structure to Izunaso’s to enable him coast home to victory.
Azumah had ecently convened a meeting which only six of the 12 local government area chairmen of the APGA in Orlu Zone attended.
It was learnt that the other six local government area chairmen of the party boycotted the meeting because they were not in support of the alleged deal.
National Newsbreak was told that the APGA Senatorial candidate disbursed the sum of N20,000 each to the six chairmen in attendance at the meeting as their own share of the Izunaso largesse.
The stakeholder further accused Iwuala of being only interested in his own welfare instead of the wellbeing of members of the party.
The stakeholder who craved anonymity regretted that Iwuala had forgotten the families of APGA members who perished in a road crash during a trip to Abuja some years ago for a party meeting.
He said; “He has forgotten the families of those who died in a motor accident years back during a trip to Abuja for APGA meeting.
“He was one of the survivors of the fatal accident that claimed lives of six staunch members of APGA and he is supposed to be immortalizing the fallen heroes of the party in Imo State hence I want all the stakeholders of APGA to wake up and resist this ugly act. APGA is not for sale”.
When contacted through telephone, APGA State Chairman, John Iwuala and APGA candidate for Orlu Senatorial Zone, Patrick Azumah denied collecting a dime from Senator Osita Izunaso.
The State Secretary of the party, Pastor Moses Eberendu simply waved off the story as a mere rumour.
Senator Osita Izunaso first served as member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007 before he was elected to represent Imo West Senatorial District in 2007.
He lost to the incumbent governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma when he sought reelection in 2011.
