The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has felicitated with former Governor of the state, Chief Achike Udenwa as he celebrates his 74th birthday anniversary.
The party described Chief Udenwa as an accomplished administrator, exceptionally brilliant leader and patriotic statesman whose contributions to the development of Imo State and the country are written on the sands of time.
In a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, the PDP said Chief Udenwa has continued to bring to bear his wealth of experience, training, discipline, ingenuity and intellectual fecundity in raising new leaders and advancing the frontiers of democracy and national development.
The party said as Governor of Imo State, Udenwa displayed an abiding commitment to rapidly transforming Imo through sound and effective educational policies, infrastructural regeneration, human capital development and agricultural revolution.
According to the party, during his tenure, Imo State was the choicest destination for business, tourism and peaceful living in Nigeria.
The party added that Chief Udenwa also deployed his skills as a financial management expert to engender accountability, transparency and prudent management of resources of Imo State, which made Imo one of the least indebted states in Nigeria under his watch.
According to the PDP, as Minister of Commerce and Industry, Udenwa’s stewardship and the depth of his insight brought a total turnaround in that sector.
The party commended his selflessness, dexterity and sacrificial roles in promoting peace, stability and growth in the party when he served as governor of the state.
It prayed God to grant him many more years in good health for the benefit of Imo State, Nigeria and humanity.
Chief Udenwa, a chartered accountant served as governor of Imo State between 1999 and 2007.
His deputy, Chief Ebere Udeagu died on October 10, 2022 at the age of 79 years.
