A good woman is difficult to come by especially these days when materialism is the fad. Again, in a society and at a time when divorce rate is skyrocketing, having a marriage survive to mark silver jubilee anniversary is laudable.
Certainly, clocking 25 years in marriage is a feat worth celebrating. It is for this and other reasons that Chief Gerry Ogu and Lolo Callista Ogu will be rolling out the drums and cymbals to mark their 25 years of marital bliss on November 19, 2022 at Chief Ogu’s hometown, Avuvu in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
In retrospect, Chief Ogu, a Co-Publisher of the highly successful Trumpeta Newspaper based in Owerri Imo State said he has a thousand and one reasons to give thanks and praises to God for His sustenace.
How he met his spouse
Chief Ogu, who disclosed that they started life as a couple from the scratch said he did not court his wife even for a single day.
The lovebirds simply gravitated to themselves shortly after the young nubile damsel had enrolled in the then College of Agriculture, Umuagwo in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area now Imo State Polytechnic, Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area.
The tying of the nuptial knot happened within one year of their meeting and confession of love for each other.
Chief Ogu said; “Part of the high points of our union is that we started from nothing to something.
“I did not court my wife. It was few months after her matriculation at the former College of Agriculture, Umuagwo that l saw her.
“This was in 1996 and we wedded in 1997. A day after the execution of the famous Otokoto six.”
Besides being successful, the marriage between the duo is also fruitful. They are blessed with five lively, healthy and good-mannered children.
Their children are also lovers of education which accounts for their progress in their studies.
“We are blessed with five children, two boys and three girls”, Chief Ogu informs, adding; “And all of them are in the university except my last baby that is in the Senior Secondary School, SSS3 at Federal Government Girls Secondary School (FGGSS) Owerri.
Qualities of spouse
Chief Ogu gives reasons for sticking to the wife of his youth. He also adduces reason why he would gladly tie the nuptial knot with Callista again and again assuming reincarnation exists.
Hear him; “My wife is a courageous person with boldness. I was calling her Lolo even before we were conferred with a chieftaincy title.
“I would marry her again and again if nature permits.
“I have too many reasons to thank God in my life and especially this past twenty five years.
“And that is why we are inviting friends and well-wishers to come and praise God with us on the 19th of November in my village Avuvu.”
The former member of staff of Leaders and Company, publishers of Thisday Newspapers would have loved their parents to witness the silver jubilee anniversary of their marriage. He regrets both parents would not be physically present to join in the celebration having taken a flight to the great beyond.
He said; ” l regret the absence of our parents, Late Hon. and Mrs Mark and Agatha Ogu and Surveyor and Mrs Ferdinand and Regina Esinanna at the occasion. May their souls have peace with the Lord.”
According to the programme of events, a thanksgiving service in honour of the couple will hold at St. Charles Catholic Church, Avuvu in Ikeduru Local Government Area while the reception follows immediately after at Hon. Mark and Agatha Ogu’s compound in the community.
The couple therefore invites friends, associates and well-wishers to click glasses with them and join in giving effusive thanks to God for His blessings and protection these past 25 years of their marital journey.
