Why NBC Banned Me Twice -Broadcaster

A radio presenter, Theodore Chinonso Uba popularly known as Nonsonkwa has revealed he was banned twice by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, from doing his broadcasting job owing to his non-compromising stand on dissemination of accurate information to the people.

Uba, who is the African Democratic Congress, ADC House of Representatives candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency made the revelation in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

He further disclosed that he was suspended and ordered to proceed on training only to be banned for unraveling the circumstances surrounding the massacre of 14 youths of Otulu Community by Ebubeagu while they were returning from a wedding ceremony.

Uba, who worked with Ozisa 96.1FM Owerri till August, this year equally reeled out the catelogue of harrassment and intimidation including attempts at arresting and silencing him for being on side of the people.

According to him, he fought for the unpaid workers and pensioners; indiscrimate arrest and mindless killing of youths of Imo State and was declared wanted for planning an ‘occupy Owerri’ protest rally.

Nonsonkwa further disclosed that he was threatened,trailed and assassins sent to eliminate him, adding that when the assassination plot failed, the footsoldiers of the masterminds swooped on his residence to arrest him but God saved him.

He said he had been unjustly accused of being a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network, ESN by the Imo State government because of his love for his fatherland which compels him to defend it against invaders.

The broadcaster equally disclosed that attempts were made to stop from practicing responsible broadcasting through the offer of dollars and a brand new radio station.

According to him, he turned down the mouth-watering offers to protect his name and integrity.

His statement reads; “When Imo workers and pensioners were being owed over two years salary arears…. Nonsonkwa fought for them till most of them started receiving their salaries & pensions.

“When police brutality was unbearable in Imo; random arrest of Imo youths was the order of the day; Nonsonkwa was at the forefront to confront the situation,he came through for Imo youths, going with them physically to meet the Police Commissioner, DSS and even at Obinze; that he was tagged an enemy of the security agencies.

“When Orlu, Umutanze, Atta Njaba,Awo Idemmili, Oru East, Orsu, Mgbidi, Awo Omamma communities were under siege, Nonsonkwa stood up for these communities, he became the only voice speaking about the killings in this part of Imo state till date.

“In 2021, he was declared wanted by the state government for planning a civil protest to draw the attention of the international community to the killings going on in Imo, but God showed His mighty powers in his life.

“He has been banned twice as a radio broadcaster because of his truthfulness.

“He has been threatened, trailed, assassins sent to eliminate him. When it failed, they came physically, surrounded his house to arrest him but God saved His messenger..

“As the voiy, he has stood in the gap for many voiceless less privileged, the weak, the widows,the orphans, the poor, the downtrodden,the disabled,the aged, Nonsonkwa has touched and saved lives.

“He has been offered mouth watering dollars, including to build a radio station for him,so that he would forsake the people,stop speaking for the people but he turned the offers down because of his mame and integrity because he strongly believes that good name is better than wealth.

“He has been wrongly accused of being an IPOB & ESN member by officials of Imo state government because he loves his fatherland and always ready to defend her against invaders…He is in court now dealing with such cases .

“Nonsonkwa cleared the names of 14 youths murdered by Ebubeagu in Awo Omamma whom the government tagged bandits by unraveling the truth of what really happened,This angered Imo government that they used NBC to ban him for the Second time in 6months.”
