A former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Kennedy Ibeh has said his greatest achievement was restoring the dignity of the legislature.
Ibeh also said he redefined the legislative process and placed the state legislature on a high pedestal within his 10-month stay as speaker.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ifeanyi Onyekachi, Ibeh reiterated his commitment to the administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
He also pledged his loyalty and support for the governor and the people of Obowo Constituency as well as Imo State.
The erstwhile speaker declined to offer reason for his sudden resignation.
His statement reads; “It is with due sense of responsibility that we announce the resignation of Rt. Hon. Barr Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, as the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly.
“Within his short period as the Speaker, IMHA, Rt Hon Barr Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh redefined legislative process, restored the dignity of the legislature and placed Imo State House of Assembly on a high pedestal.
“He therefore wishes to reiterate his commitment to the 3-R Government of His Excellency, Gov. Hope Uzodimma and to pledge his loyalty and support to the Governor, the good people of Obowo State Constituency and Imo State.”
Recall that Emeka Nduka had been elected Ibeh’s successor.
Nduka, who represents Ehime Mbano Constituency was elected speaker on Monday at a special sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu who called for nominations after reading Ibe’s letter of resignation.
The Majority Leader, Kanayo Onyemaechi (APC-Owerri West) nominated Nduka, a nomination seconded by Uju Onwudiwe (APC-Njaba).
Two major actions taken by Ibeh during his speakership were the declaration of the seats of members for NgorOkpala, Tochi Okereke and Nkwerre, Obinna Okwara vacant.
While the sacking of Okereke did not raise eyebrows having missed sitting for more than one year without permission or reason, the ouster of Okwara for defecting to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC kicked off dust that is yet to settle.
Ibe is rated as a vibrant and intelligent lawmaker.
Observers are waiting with bated breath to know the reason for his sudden resignation.
