Indigenes of Imo State in Diaspora have concluded plans to hold town hall meetings with senatorial candidates of the political parties in Imo East District.
The President General of Imo State Congress of America, Sampson Udeh disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent.
Udeh said the indigenes of the state were no longer going to sit by the sidelines again to watch events unfold but will play active roles on who becomes the next senator of the zone
According to him, governance could no longer be left for those who glory in mediocrity but those who understand the business of legislation, their powers as those in charge of appropriation and the ultimately the needs of the people.
He said: ‘The decay in Imo East, especially in the area of infrastructure can no longer be ignored.
“That is the reason, members of Owerri zone met and decided to engage in the political dispensation of Owerri zone by reaching out to all the Senatorial aspirants of various political parties.
“The organizers contacted the candidates of Accord Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, All Progressives Congress, yet to get to the candidate of PDP. We are inviting other senatorial candidates to join by reaching out to the organizers.
“Mike Nwachukwu of Accord Party responded first and he is the first candidate scheduled to be engaged by the entire Owerri zone.
“We’ll schedule other townhall meetings as we receive the willingness of other aspirants to participate.
“Our goal is to engage all the senatorial aspirants so that Owerri Zone electorate will choose who will represent them in the Red Chamber.
“Days of anointed or favored candidate are over. Ndi Owerri worldwide must have a say on who will represent them. Any candidate that has something to offer should be proud to engage the electorate.
Owerri Zone must reclaim her past glory.
Owerri zone must be great again”.
He said those who feel it is business as usual should think twice, insisting they are ready to show presence to ensure that the right thing is done.
“The era of hiding under the guise of “I am a mere lawmaker” is gone as we have made our Investigations and discovered that some of them are paying lip service while other serious ones from other zones are accomplishing so much for their various zones and states.
“Those who take this call for granted should think twice as we all know the influence of the Diaspora brothers and sisters in their various home communities”.
Going by the tometable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, open campaigns are to begin September 28, 2022.
