Businessman and philanthropist, Prince Alex Mbata says his driving force for joining politics is to increase his capacity to do more for the people of Owerri zone and Imo State.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Imo East Senatorial District noted that he had in his private capacity through PAM Foundation tarred roads in Owerri Municipal Council and his hometown, Ngwoma Obube as well as empowered many people.
He said he has discovered that his personal resources are not enough to do all he has purposed in his heart for the people, adding that politics will provide the platform for him to fend more for the poor and less privileged in the society.
Prince Mbata who spoke on Wednesday at his residence in New Owerri therefore solicited the support of the people for himself and the state government under the watch of Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Describing himself as a good product, he stated that Governor Uzodimma not only means well for the state but has also demonstrated it by making giant strides especially in the area of road construction.
He noted that Governor Uzodimma has tarred the Owerri-Orlu road and Owerri-Okigwe Road which defied previous administrations as well as flagged off the reconstruction of Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road.
Mbata said; “I m here to help the people of Owerri zone because I know I am a good brand and a good product. I came into politics to help the poor. I have used my personal funds to help the poor, and I will do more when I go into public office. I constructed roads and empowered so many people in the zone in my private capacity.
The candidate frowned at the attitude of some people whose stock-in-trade is to run others and government down but urged journalists not to join such people through publication of falsehood against others.
He insisted that he was not indicted by the government white paper on Imo State University, Owerri, saying that the so-called indictment was a blackmail tool being deployed against him.
Mbata disclosed that the lawyer who spearheaded the blackmail had since tendered an unreserved apology to him, adding that he has since forgiven him.
Hear him; “My antecedents speak for me. When I was pro-Chancellor, IMSU, I lived up to expectation. I was never indicted by any panel. When I left the university, I was persuaded to return, because of my good works. My good works at the university speaks for itself.
Mbata debunked reports that he was planted as a senatorial candidate of the APC by the governor even as he disclosed that he had reached out to his co-contestants for the ticket of the party.
“I have spoken to most of my brother contestants, such as Chief Jerry Chukwueke and Ugochukwu Slyvester (Ugo Sly). And I have no issues with them” he said.
In his remarks, the Director General of Prince Alex Mbata Divine Mandate, Rt Hon Godfrey Dikeocha, described Mbata as the best among the pack to represent Owerri zone at the Senate.
The former Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly said; ”He is a good product and because of his antecedents as a good man who has aided the good people of Owerri zone, he remains the best to represent the zone in the Senate.
“Mbata is credible, a solid character and because of his positive antecedents, we dragged him to join politics”.
