The Association of Labour Party Local Government Area Chairmen in Imo State has reaffirmed support for the 2019 governorship candidate of the party, in the state Chief Joseph Ukaegbu,(Ikenga).
The chairmen said that Chief Ukaegbu remains the apex leader of the party in the state.
The association vowed to resist any attempt to remove elected LGA and ward chairmen of the party to suit the interests of other political parties in the state ahead of the 2023 general elections.
These are contained in the resolution endorsed by the 27 elected LGA Chairmen on Monday, 5th September, 2022 in Owerri and made available to newsmen.
According to the resolution, the aggrieved LGA Chairmen further passed a vote of no confidence in the National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party, Mr. Sunday Okeke.
The chairmen accused Okeke of creating problems in the party by purportedly removing elected LGA officers.
Similarly, the chairmen passed a vote of no confidence in the State Executive Committee with the exception of the three zonal Chairmen.
They accused the SWC of connivance with some politicians to hijack the structures of the party in the state.
The chairmen however, passed a vote of implicit confidence in the National Chairman of the party, Barr. Julius Abure,, in appreciation of his commitment towards protecting and projecting the party’s interests across the nation.
