The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State has appointed Collins Opurozor as its new Publicity Secretary.
Opurozor succeeds Ogubundu Nwadike who dumped the PDP last year and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nwadike was later a ppointed an aide to the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma on research and documentation.
Opurozor served as Director-General Imo PDP New Media until his elevation.
He assumed the position in 2021after Ambrose Nwaogwugwu abandoned the position and joined the APC and its administration as a member of its social media team.
The new spokesman, Opurozor announced his appointment on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday., September 6
He expressed his profound gratitude to party leaders and members for the appointment.
Opurozor also assured of his readiness to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He said he was humbled by the appointment.
He wrote; “Brand new State Publicity Secretary of PDP in Imo State.
“Very many thanks to our party leaders and members for this new assignment. I’m very much humbled. The outcome will certainly justify the confidence reposed in me”.
Mr. Nmeregini Emenike, who had been signing as Acting state Publicity Secretary of the state chapter of the PDP returns fully to his deputy publicity secretary’s position.
Meanwhile, the politics of 2023 has since heated up in the party with two camps fighting over whose primicipal clinches the gubernatorial ticket of the party.
The camps of a former governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu have been at loggerheads over who gets to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 governorship poll in the state.
The Anyanwu’s camp has maintained that the party has favoured Ihedioha the most by giving its gubernatorial ticket consecutively in 2015 and 2019 to the former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives and therefore should allow another person particularly its prinicipal to run on the party’s platform this time.
But the widespread acceptance of Ihedioha across the state seems to be posing a challenge.
Again, it seems Ihedioha enjoys the support of the party hierarchy which appears to be tilting towards his candidature for the 2023 poll.
