The authorities of the Newsbreak Journalism Training School, NJTS, Owerri, Imo State have approved lectures for students forced to remain at home following the indefinite strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

The approval was contained in a statement dated August 25, 2022 and signed by the Publisher/Editor-in-chief of National Newsbreak newspaper, Gele Agbai.

Agbai said the school was moved by the plight of the students who have been forced to stay at home for a such a long period which is likely to make many of them begin to lose interest in their academic pursuits.

The publisher disclosed that some of the students have confided in him of their readiness to look for alternative non-formal fields of endeavour to try their hands on instead of staying at home idle and unproductive.

Agbai, who is also the founder of the NJTS urged the holidaying students to avail themselves of the opportunity to keep up with their studies.

According to him, the students are bound to gain immensely since the topics taught at the training school are practical-oriented.

He enjoined interested undegraduates to join the school’s regular students to keep abreast of trends and new techniques in the practice of the journalism profession while waiting for the lecturers’ union to call off the strike.

Agbai assured the students that their time at the training school of the establishment would be worth the while and would help them understand their course.

He disclosed that lectures at the training school hold on Wednesdays and Fridays for a duration of two hours each day between the hours of 12:00noon and 2:00pm.

Some of the students who attended the maiden class on August 31 confessed being greatly enriched by the lecture on Introduction to Mass Comunication and Writing Process.

Chidiebere Enyia and Nwamkpa Gilbert Arinze expressed optimism that they would emerge better journalists and writers by the time they cxomplete the course at the NJTS.
