An aide of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Chief Enyinna Onuegbu has unveiled the litany of achievements recorded by his principal in less than three years of his administration.
Chief Onuegbu, who is the Chief Political Adviser/Head of Political Bureau to the governor unfolded the achievements during a courtesy visit to the corporate office of Newsleaders Communications Limited, publishers of National Newsbreak Newspapers on Tuesday.
Chief Onuegbu listed the achievements to include securing the federal government’s nod to establish a teaching hospital for the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) and the upgrading of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri to a university of education.
He said the governor has also under three years of his administration established the Imo State University of Environmental Sciences, Umuagwo and recovered the Eastern Palm University, Ogboko which has been renamed Kingsley Ozumba University, Ideato South.
The Chief Political Adviser noted that Governor Uzodimma has equally recovered plots of land which were forcefully taken away from individuals by the previous administration.
According to him, the governor allowed the panel on assets recovery set up by his predecessor to continue and complete its job because he saw that the intention was right and government is a continuum.
Onuegbu pointed out that the administration has eliminated corruption in the payment of pensions in the state, saying that the automation introduced in pension payment has seen pensioners receiving alerts in the cool comfort of their homes.
According to him, gone were the days when pensioners had to travel far distances and queue in the hot sun resulting in some of them collapsing and dying in a bid to get their pensions.
He equally reeled out the governor’s giant strides in the area of infrastructural provision, pointing out that the 37km Owerri-Orlu Expressway and 47km Owerri-Okigwe expressway which defied past administrations have been tarred to a reasonable extent.
The aide explained that the Owerri-Orlu expressway has been tarred up to Banana Junction with solar-powered lights for illumination in the night.
He added that the governor has also flagged off the reconstruction of the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia expressway and begun the remodeling of the country home of former governor of the state, Chief Sam Mbakwe.
Onuegbu expressed indignation over the emphasis being given to security challenges even as he blamed opposition for the spate of insecurity in the state.
He also queried the efforts at lowering the high esteem of the office of Gov Uzodimma by tagging him ‘Supreme Court governor’ when he is not the only one who have been declared governor by the apex court.
He listed Mr. Peter Obi and Governor Douye Diri as some of the politicians who emerged governors through the Supreme Court yet nobody tags them ‘Supreme Court governor’.
Responding, the Publisher/Editor-in-chief of National Newsbreak newspaper, Gele Agbai expressed his profound gratitude to the Chief Political Adviser for finding time to visit the establishment.
He lauded the governor for providing quality infrastructure in the state and urged him to keep it up.
Agbai however enjoined the government to go beyond blaming opponents or opposition for stoking the fire of insecurity in the state but to deploy the intelligence at its disposal to unravel the masterminds and bring them to book.
Agbai argued that the government would cease sounding like a broken record if it unveils the masterminds of insecurity in the state and compels them to face the music.
In the entourage of the Chief Political Adviser were Hon. Stafford Arinze, the Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment to the governor and Hon. Modestus Nwamkpa, the Senior Special Assistant Print Media (Local).
