A Civil Society Organization (CSO) on Thursday organized a 5,000 man-march for the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma over what it termed the giant strides of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state within two years.
The CSO accused former governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Owerri Zone, Uche Onyeagucha and member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta Federal Constituency, Uju Kingsley of masterminding the insecurity in the state.
The CSO is made up of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) the Imo State chapter and the Relief Market Traders Association.
They urged the opposition parties to play politics within the ambit of the law as against politics of bitterness.
The marchers numbering 5,000 gathered at the Freedom Square along Cabinet Office at 8:30 am from where they moved on foot with placards of varying inscriptions.
The placards had inscriptions supporting Uzodimma-led administration as well as ones that condemned insecurity in the state which according to them was allegedly sponsored by the members of the opposition party.
Chanting along the major roads of Owerri, the group stopped at the Government House Roundabout where they were addressed by the Chief of Staff, Chief. Nnamdi Anyaehie.
Leader of the group, Barrister Uzo Eke revealed that the Civil Society Organization having followed with keen interest the terrain of politics in Imo State since the assumption of Uzodimma.
According to him, the CSO has found out that the governor was innocent of the insecurity in Imo State.
He accused the opposition of masterminding insecurity with the intention of discrediting as well as distracting the government hence their march of solidarity.
The group warned Uche Onyeagucha to stop addressing Ihedioha as governor of Imo state even when Uzodimma holds sway as the constitutionally elected governor.
The group noted that there are constitutionally provided avenues through which a sitting governor could vacate office such as impeachment and resignation and none has taken place in the case of Uzodimma.
The group accused the members of the opposition party of vowing to make the state ungovernable for Uzodimma when the Supreme Court declared him the authentic winner of the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Recall that the present administration has accused the opposition party of sponsoring the insecurity in Imo State.
Reacting to their demands, the Chief of Staff, Imo Government House, Nnamdi Anyaehie thanked them on the peaceful manner they conducted themselves as well as recognizing the good work of the present administration.
Anyaehie assured them of government continued support and provision of good governance.
He regretted Uzodimma’s unavoidably absence and assured the people that their demands particularly the letters to the president would get to him
